I use the DuckDucGo app, and the extension for google and it is great. You don't get tracked, and you can have your own email protection. Also, it is a great browser. I think it is great, but if you really want to use DDG, just install it. Like what Jose Leon said, it tells you it is going to change to the DDG search engine. Go easy on it.

Overwrites Standard Search Engine and does not let me change it. I do want to be able to switch and choose.
I'm glad this exists, but it doesn't let you change just SOME features-- you have to ditch Google, when I'd rather just have *extended* privacy. The only way to change it back to Google is by installing another extension, which for some reason you have to do on Windows but not on Chromebooks.
Thanks for the privilege privacy using, it protect all web that i am using and even if mistakenly uninstalling it, I still get the search's done. Or tho if people are were giving pass 5 star i composed to rate this duckduckgo more than that. Thank all:
Stop hijacking my New Tab page. It now loads slowly, and it sucks.
It enforced me to use everything duckduckgo, and even after uninstalling it, I still get the searchs done on DDG, wtfffffffffffffff, so much for privacy, but they invade you in a different way.
if you're too much of a google meatrider to realize how they've been manipulating you and your search results as well as selling your data, you should just go back to google instead of complaining on an objectively much better search engine
DDG extension is worse an enforcer than Google Chrome when it comes to its own search engine and forcing it down my throat as my new default search engine without allowing me to choose another and use it as an alternative. Thanks, but no thanks, I'll stick with Google Gestapo then, at least I can define shortcuts in Chrome for other web search engines / sites by simply typing e.g. "duck" in the adressbar, enter, followed by search tags, enter, et voilà, searched by DDG without it forcing itself to the fore. This extension is utterly moot if it thinks I'm too stupid to manage my own search engines myself and this thing has to manage my browser SE for me by putting shackles on the user! It's like choosing the plague over cholera (two words, one finger).
This extension works well on other browsers. However, I've had to disable it on Chrome because it forces full control. It's all or nothing. In other browsers it's nice to be able to pick which search engine I'm using. I love using DDG as a search engine but sometimes I need to use Google. The way this extension is built inhibits this ability unfortunately.
