Product summary

Review the store description, core capabilities, and common use cases.

At DuckDuckGo, we believe the best way to protect your personal information from hackers, scammers, and privacy-invasive companies is to stop it from being collected at all. That's why millions of people choose DuckDuckGo over other browser extensions to protect their searching and browsing. Our built-in search engine is like Google but never tracks your searches. And our browsing protections, such as ad tracker blocking and cookie blocking, help stop other companies from collecting your data. Oh, and our browser extension is free — we make money from privacy-respecting search ads, not by exploiting your data. Take back control of your personal information with the browser extension designed for data protection.

FEATURE HIGHLIGHTS

Protect Your Searches by Default: Install the extension and we’ll set your default search engine and homepage to DuckDuckGo Search, so you can easily search online without being tracked.

Shield Your Browsing History: Our 3rd-Party Tracker Loading Protection blocks most trackers before they load, greatly exceeding what the browser offers by default.

Secure Your Email (Optional): Use Email Protection to block most email trackers and hide your existing email address with @duck.com addresses.

Automatically Enforce Encryption: Shield your data from network and Wi-Fi snoopers by forcing many sites to use an HTTPS connection.

I use occasionally DuckDuckGo but not through Chrome. I haven't thought using with this browser as in somehow didn't felt right when using Chrome with associated account linked to it - the data is already there... Still, better having it here, makes me feel like i'm taking a step into the right direction. Keep in mind that the extension makes DuckDuckGo your default search engine, so if you still want to use google, it's handy to bookmark it. In general DuckDuckGo is doing good job and respects my privacy (better the google), so yes, I like how it works.

while i appreciate the idea of a privacy extension like this, i found that this extension changed my default search engine without either asking me or giving me a way to change it back. i don't appreciate extensions changing my settings like this, so that's enough of a dealbreaker for me - moreover, DuckDuckGo as a search engine very rarely gives me results relevant to what i search for, let alone the quantity that Google does. i understand that this is because DDG doesn't track user data, and the information i often need isn't widely-searched, so i'm not disappointed in that - i'm disappointed that it won't let me set any other search engine to my default and bypass the hassle of manually going to the search engine that gets me my info. i get it, DDG is all about privacy, but i'm more about user choice than this extension allows. i do, truly, know better than my machines - however, if the devs are able and willing to code in an options menu and allow users to set a default search engine to their preference, i'll consider giving it another go in the future.

Don't like how I cannot edit shortcuts. Duckduckgo is slower than Google and doesn't give as good search results. Images always hangs. But it gives uncensored info. If I can't find something, then I go to Google.

Теперь это мой поисковик по умолчанию. А чрезмерно лояльных спецслужбам Яндекс и Гугл - в топку.

It does what it claims, but there are some caveats that you should know: 1) It has less results than Google. For instance, website B usually repost articles from website A besides those of its own. Both are legit & B isn't a content farm, but sometimes you'd like to read direct from the source; I can see that DDG doesn't show results from A at all, whereas Google shows both. 2) It prevented streaming from a legit & paid website I was using, with no indication that it was blocking it other than no response when clicking the 'play' button on the page. If you have a similar experience, be sure to check DDG's site privacy protection and turn it off to see if it helps. 3) It does not offer filtering search results to those in the last hour (only last day & longer periods), so if you're in the habit of searching for breaking news on a particular subject you're out of luck here. 4) All the images from your search term are displayed separately on the 'images' page. While it makes the main page less cluttered it could also be counter-productive since sometimes a picture speaks louder than text even when you're not specifically looking for an image. I wish there is an option to show some relevant images in the main page like Google, as well as a "search this image" option when right-clicking on an image (Google has an extension for this but the search is done using Google itself.) Despite all the above I'm keeping DDG, although it's a bit annoying that sometimes I have to do a Google search (by typing Goo... then tabbing in Chrome's Omnibox) because I feel I'm not getting the desired results (and usually I'm correct). Hopefully DDG will improve the aforementioned in a future update to make it a complete Google search replacement.
