AI product readChrome companion extension for Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition software, bridging Dragon's voice command capabilities to the Chrome browser via native messaging
Dragon NaturallySpeaking's built-in browser support cannot directly interact with modern web pages in Chrome. This extension enables Dragon users to use voice commands (clicking elements by name, dictating/editing text) within Chrome, including support for Google Docs and specialized web applications.
1) User installs Dragon NaturallySpeaking desktop software (v13+) and the Chrome extension. 2) The extension injects content scripts into all web pages. 3) When Dragon is running, the extension's background service worker connects to Dragon via Chrome native messaging (com.nuance.dgnria). 4) Voice commands spoken to Dragon are relayed through the native messaging host to the extension, which then parses the DOM, identifies clickable elements and editable fields, and executes the requested actions (click, dictate, edit) on the page.

- Target users
- Dragon NaturallySpeaking users (version 13+) who browse the web with Chrome / Professionals requiring hands-free web navigation and text input / Medical professionals using Dragon with web-based clinical applications
- Cannot inspect the native messaging host (com.nuance.dgnria) code or Dragon desktop application to verify full feature requirements
- Cannot confirm whether Dragon NaturallySpeaking itself requires a Nuance account or activation key beyond the initial software purchase
MonetizationNo paid features detected
The extension itself contains no payment logic, subscription checks, premium feature gating, billing APIs, or upgrade UI. Searches for premium, subscription, license, upgrade, payment, and purchase returned zero matches. Dragon NaturallySpeaking itself is a paid desktop product, but the extension does not gate or manage those paid features — it is a free companion that bridges Dragon to Chrome.

- Reason
- The extension is a local bridge between Chrome and the Dragon NaturallySpeaking desktop application. It communicates via Chrome's native messaging API (chrome.runtime.connectNative('com.nuance.dgnria')) — no login UI, no authentication flow, no account creation is implemented in the extension itself. The keyword hits for 'login' and 'auth' are all false positives from @author comments and commented-out debug logging strings.

Every time it is asking that the extension is not added this is really sorry state of affairs
This extension is useless. Continually crashes, coming up with the following error message - "it appears that the Dragon extension for Chrome has been disabled or uninstalled. The best experience, including enhanced dictation, please restore the extension." After clicking restore, nothing happens. I don't see the point of it and trying to get any technical support via Nuance is such a marathon nightmare that each time I just give up.
This regularly fails and does not even revert to the dictation box. You need to instruct it to open the dictation box. Frankly the new AI assisted Dragon is appalling regularly crashing in Office 2016. Worse Dragon 13 its the most expensive Dragon yet.
rarely works properly
I love this product! Dragon is amazing! However, it often seems that when I first start Google Chrome, it disables this add-in. That's unfortunate – just a pain in the ___ to re-enable it every time you start.
The extension is alright. It is not as good as the erstwhile Firefox plug-in, which unfortunately is no longer supported. It does have a lot of the traditional functionality of Dragon NaturallySpeaking Web Extensions, including link numbering, fulltext control and other minor features. However, it does crash from time to time. This is tested on Dragon NaturallySpeaking 15, which is working with Chrome 67
Ne s'installe pas!
If Dragon dictation stops working in Chrome, try removing the extension and then re-adding it. It seems that sometimes when Chrome updates it break the Dragon Web Extension.
This extension does not work. I've tried getting in touch with Nuance to no avail. One time this application was built in to the program. Whoever thought of this made a bad idea.
Really bad app. As some other users mentioned: I COULD ENTER TEXT FREELY IN ALLEGEDLY UNCOMPATIBLE APPS AFTER DISABLING THIS ADD ON AND THE DICTATION BOX.
