* Updated to Manifest V3.
Before Chrome 52, the backspace key navigated back (if you weren't writing text). Many people lost their progress while working online by accidentally pressing backspace and leaving a page -- so we removed the feature from Chrome, and created this extension for those who prefer the old behavior.
This extension can't restore backspace on certain special pages, for example any of the "chrome://" pages such as Settings or Extensions.

works. don't find it in chrome task manager so I think/hope the memory footprint is ok
finally - now if only google makes it as a flag option instead adding a bulky extension :o

Först ger man fingret till sina användare genom att ta bort funktionalitet som har funnits i 10 - 15 år, utan att informera eller ge något sätt att konfigurera backspace funktionen. Sedan måste man installera ett tillägg för att få tillbaks grundläggande funktionalitet... Suger google!
Should not have removed it in the first place and required the dumbest key button presses needed but at least this restores it
Does not restore shift+backspace for going forward. Please and thank you.
Does what it says on the tin. Thank you Google, I was sooooooo angry when backspace stopped working, replaced by TWO keys on opposite sides of many keyboard layouts.
Since Google decided to introduce a breaking change to the Chrome Browser, this is the only solution
