This extension replaces the new tab page with a page that aims to remain visually similar to the new tab page but without any Google doodles.
To hide the footer that Chrome adds at the bottom of the New Tab page, click the “Customize Chrome” button and turn off “Show footer on New Tab page.”
NOTE: Personalized and dynamic aspects of the new tab page (such as themes, wallpapers and shortcuts) are not supported.

It works for its intended purpose, which i'm happy about, since I couldn't stand looking at that horrible, fast, headache-inducing soccer player gif over and over that google decided to add to the homepage for some reason. though the downside is that it gets rid of any wallpapers and shortcuts on the homescreen, including the web store and the "google apps" menu, which is a bit of an issue.

Doesn't work for Google Voice Search. Annoyingly, pressing the microphone icon takes you back to the original Doodles screen where you have to press the icon AGAIN.

This extension removed my shortcuts, but at least the annoying doodle is absent
It removed my shortcuts. But I am happy with this because it removed those annoying FIFA World Cup doodles. Those doodles literally irritate me so much, whenever I open Chrome, I feel like I'm stepping on something gross.

Thanks you for letting me get rid of the World Cup football GIF's. Not sure whose idea those were but putting a fast moving gif like that has to violate the Geneva Convention.
