I installed Urban VPN hoping for a secure and private browsing experience, but what I found was concerning enough that I removed it almost immediately. After installing the extension in Brave Browser, my antivirus flagged one of its internal files with the detection: “not-a-virus:HEUR:RiskTool.Script.UrbanSniffer.gen.” The analysis showed that this script (200.js) could potentially be used to monitor or manipulate web traffic. While it was labeled as a “RiskTool” rather than confirmed malware, this still indicates behavior that can be exploited or misused. For a VPN service, this is a serious red flag. A VPN should protect user privacy — not run scripts that resemble sniffing or traffic inspection tools. Even if this functionality is part of how the service operates, there is not enough transparency to justify the risk. My biggest concern is sensitive data. I do not feel comfortable using a VPN that triggers heuristic warnings related to traffic monitoring. My personal and browsing information should not be exposed, inspected, or handled in ways that are unclear to the user. Because of this, I uninstalled the extension. I strongly recommend others to be cautious, review permissions carefully, and pay attention to antivirus alerts before trusting this service. Privacy tools should build trust — not raise doubts.
