Most extensions that allow a custom URL for the new tab page do so by redirecting to the URL then attempting to focus on the address bar.
The second step of focusing on the address bar when using the redirect method was broken in Chrome 61.
This extension fixes the second step by using a new method, rather than redirecting it loads the URL in the background then injects its content into a empty new tab page.
This means there is no redirect, and therefore the address bar never actually loses focus in the first place.

With the new tab set to any search engine page, (search.brave.com, search.google.com, bing.com) this extension causes hitting the "Enter" key to add a new line instead of initiate the search query. I'll open a new tab, type into the search field, then press enter, but I end up with spacing, no search results! I have to then move my hand to my mouse and navigate to the "Go" button!!! The horror! Haha! Though all jokes and fun aside, I am met with frustration. I'd like to keep the speed of limited mouse interaction. I just removed the New Tab Override extension. I am not sure of the root cause of this conflict, I have experienced this for about a month, while I have used New Tab Override for 2 years. Thank you!

Works perfect for using my self-hosted homepage as the new tab page.
打开网页后焦点在浏览器地址栏,不能设置本地网页
Nice and all...but... successfully set the New Tab to Google search engine, but when I press the Enter key it creates a new line instead of searching. I tried setting the New Tab to other search engines (like Bing, etc) but the same thing happens. After typing in my keywords and press Enter, it creates a new line instead. Have to press the "Google Search" button to do the searching, which is ugh!
I'm rating this 4 stars to support the dev because I love that the keyboard focus remains in the browser address bar. But there's a fatal flaw (for my usecase): I cannot specify an URL starting with "chrome-extension://" (I need this for the Session Buddy extension)
Make it black screen on new tab please. its flash-banging my eyes. tried replacing page with site with black screen but it just adds extra processing and also displays a white screen until the site fully loads so can't be it. otherwise pretty good extension.
