Product summary

Review the store description, core capabilities, and common use cases.

AudioPick allows to pick a preferred audio output device that is used when a chrome tab is playing HTML5 audio or video over HTTPS.

The extension finds HTML5 audio and video elements within the document tree and manipulates the "sinkId"` in order to switch to the preferred audio output device. Since version 0.3.8 it also finds Audio, Video and AudioContext objects that have not been inserted into the document tree, e. g. Spotify and SoundCloud should now work with the extension, too.

Since it's now possible to store/remember a preferred audio output device per domain, the extension's option panel and hence the option to set a global preferred device (for the browser) has been removed.

Note that the "Media Capture and Streams API" requires media (microphone) permissions to be granted to every site with audio sinks that need to be manipulated, which - as a result - allows those sites to access your microphone. Hence AudioPick only acquires permission when the user actually picks a non-default device for a site and restores permissions when the user reverts back to using the default. Since version 0.3.10 a "smartMicAccess" mode can be activated in the UI which further reduces the number of microphone permissions granted by the extension.

Doesn't work. I click the extension icon, pick a device, and nothing happens - if I click the icon again, the default device is still selected, not the one I picked.

This extension is a life saver for me. I used to rely on Audio Router to reroute Chrome's audio out to my TV without changing my primary sound driver so I could watch a stream on my TV with the sound coming out the TV too, but keep other applications still using my desktop 5.1 surround set. Well something Google did broke this program from working because Chrome crashes immediately after rerouting audio. Not anymore. Now with this extension, everything works exactly as it used to but even better because now I don't need to run another program, I just use the extension and it's super easy to use. Just open the tab, start the stream and set the extension to use whatever sound output device you wish and voila. This is a 10/10 piece of software. Thank you for releasing it for us to enjoy.

I wish the audio device selected would be persistent. Every time I plug in a monitor or headphones to my laptop this extension chooses the newest output as the default and I have to go back and reselect my TV. I also wish this were available on other browsers because I literally can't find another way to do what this does and Chrome has gone downhill.
