Before anything bad about the LanSchool "extension" is said, I just want to point out that LanSchool is a useful tool to keep unfocused students on task, I get why schools want to use LanSchool and I understand its purpose. At the same time LanSchool feels over the top in its approach to monitering students and teachers can moniter your screen even if you aren't in that class at the time. LanSchool is dangerous because it allows the teacher to control your mouse and teachers need proper training on the correct use of the program. Let me just get out of the way that the intent of LanSchool is not malicous or evil. LanSchool was made to help teachers keep their students on task in working. Most teachers won't misuse or abuse the LanSchool authority. However, LanSchool has granted the options to some teachers to let's say, go above and beyond in "monitering" students. Sometimes this goes to a very questionable level, in 8th grade I had my 2nd period science teacher activate LanSchool on me when I was in my 7th period class, where she took over my mouse and clicked out of the "lofi hip hop - beats to relax/study to" YouTube video I was listening to while doing my United States History class assignment with headphones in, mind you. She told me the next day that I shouldn't be "watching videos" in class, when I was simply playing myself some focus music. To start, LanSchool is dangerous/suspicous because it is used as spyware for some teachers to not only look at a students entire screen but take over the mouse and control everything. If a student had pictures of them and/or a loved one, whether that be family or friend, the teacher could simply open the students files and access it. Not to mention that LanSchool itself has an invisible icon in Chrome which has been pointed out by countless reviews of the extension; which raises the question, why does it want to hide itself? Secondly, teachers need to be more properly trained to use the system. Teachers think that just because they have all of the power; that means they can just go willy nilly with it and go to the point of abusing it. Disturbingly, I had one of my teachers anonymously hop on LanSchool when I was in my own home watching YouTube videos. Now it's not like I'm embarassed of what I view on the internet but I shouldn't be at risk of being forced to share it with my teacher whom I don't know much about. Teachers need to be trained to not abuse authority and let the kids have a fair ammount of privacy. To conclude, LanSchool is not an awful program at its core and I give it a 2/5 because I dislike the use of it and the suspicousness around it; not the purpose of it. I think that teachers should be more respectful to the privacy of students and that LanSchool should change some of its features to further support its intended use of keeping kids on track and not straight up spying on kids. - Nathaniel Packard, 10th Grade
spys on your computer
It's really annoying when every time you go to open your Chromebook, it asks to share your screen. This makes it start up super slow. Also Lanschool is just stupid. If your class is boring and no one is paying attention, that's not the computers fault, that's yours. Maybe make your class more exciting or something. Don't need to spy on us smh.
Something like this is definitely needed for school devices, but i don't know if this extension is best. most reviews of this extension are raging kids, but as a "kid" i see the need for this. This extension is useful, and doesn't cause to many problems with the network or running speed for the computer, so it earned 3 stars from me.
its terrible they put it on my personal laptop and it installed viruses should be banned from the chrome store.
This is unfair and rude for a student. Some websites that are necessary are blocked because of this app.
