"Auto Tab Discard" is a lightweight browser extension that automatically reduces the amount of memory used by open but inactive tabs, helping to conserve battery life on portable devices by disabling JavaScript code and DOM events on discarded tabs.

My memory usage actually doubled after I installed this and chose to put all my tabs to sleep! Totally not what I was expecting …
Did something change with recent Chrome updates? I've been using this for several months and it used to work absolutely amazingly (500+ tabs, and my memory usage would only be 1-2 GB because everything was discarded). But now? Nothing works. The automatic discarding doesn't work. The forced discarding by opening the extension doesn't work. The memory usage isn't going down (Chrome regularly uses 8-10 GB for me). The shortcuts never work. What has happened? Please update and fix this extension. It used to be so good.
Unfortunately tab discarding actually does not free any memory - chrome processes still occupy lots of memory. Chrome restart is required to actually free the memory.
What does "auto tab discarding" mean? I've changed nothing but it seems to have stopped doing its thing - meaning Chrome tabs are using too much memory. What setting do I need to change? This extention needs a translation page for non-experts to figure out how to use it.
Inactive tabs are not being discarded automatically after 10 minutes. Can you please help?
After the great suspender went belly up, I needed a new solution to handling unused but still relevant tabs and this is that solution. Love the mostly setup and forget style, it keeps me from having to micro manage everything.
Muito bom!
This is a very helpful app and it is super awesome.
Please add a checkBox In the settings, which will not kill tabs if a sound has been played on the tab for more than a minute (for the same domain). I sometimes pause on video clips and get distracted by other tabs. If I don't go back too quickly, then it kills the tab with the paused video (but not stopped!) - since there was no sound on them for too long
Switched from Great Suspender due to privacy/security concerns. This has been working great for me.
