Not sure why but as of today it started muting every new tab, even whitelisted pages.
Since the latest Chrome update (99) there is a weird bug where a new tab starts muted even though it's on the whitelist. Other than that a really great and simple extension.

Unable to unmute tabs. Terrible.
Stopped working recently, can no longer mute/unmute from the button on the tab

It worked better with some previous versions of Chrome (now the little icon to switch on/off one tab sound has disappeared and only the keyboard shortcuts work) but it's still useful.
works great!
