DiscreetTab – Hide Tab Titles & Icons for Privacy

DiscreetTab is a lightweight, privacy-focused extension that lets you hide tab titles and favicons, making your browsing more discreet in shared or public environments.

✅ What’s New in v1.3

Unified Storage Backend

All extension components now use a single storage system (chrome.storage.sync), replacing previous mixed usage with storage.local. This ensures consistent behavior, faster synchronization across devices, and eliminates data desynchronization issues.

To start, I am using the default Dark Mode theme on Google Chrome on my MacBook Pro. When inserting a direct image link for the favicon, it seems to automatically convert the light color favicon I pasted into a dark color one. For example, I am trying to replicate the Google Chrome [Dark Mode] "New Tab" icon (dark grey background, white/light grey Chrome logo) to use with my DiscreetTab, but it always make the logo dark. Perhaps there is a way fix to this, but as of right now, there is no information. This slightly underdelivers on the immersion and discretion I'm seeking from from this extension, but otherwise, everything else works very well. The setup is easy and convenient, and I would definitely recommend it to boost your privacy.

suggested improvements: support for sleeping tabs, including for extensions such as autotabdiscard. remembering discreeterised tabs across sessions and domains, possibly by saving to the currently signed in google account. complete blocking of favicon.ico from ever being cached on a tab that has been discreeterised across that particular tab's entire session, with optionally defaulting to being discreeterised on new tab. removal of default favicon.ico so it only shows title or _ text on each tab. love the extension, as someone that constantly has several tabs and sessions operating at any one time, and appreciate efficient coding. do you accept donations?

Not to bad could be better. It would be nice to save the settings per tab and not reset after refresh. And it would be nice to have something other then a _. Maybe numbers like 1,2,3 numbering each open tab or have Tab, Tab (1), Tab (2) or something like that. But pretty cool starting out I guess.
