Hover your mouse over any image on the supported websites and the extension will automatically enlarge the image to its full size, making sure that it still fits into the browser window.
This is an open source version of the original HoverZoom extension which is now overrun by malware and deleted from store. In this version all spyware has been removed, many bugs were fixed and new features were added. It doesn't collect any statistics by default. The only permission it needs is to access data on all websites (to extract full images), and *optional* permissions to access browser history, download/save images or get tab urls for per-site configuration.
Sometimes sites change design and when it happens extension needs to be updated. Please report any issues with zoom not working by using Support tab or https://github.com/extesy/hoverzoom/issues page.

Worked great until recently, where Chrome thankfully disabled it because now it needs permissions to modify my downloads, which is incredibly shady. There's no legitimate reason this extension should ever need to manage my downloads.
As of this review the latest update to the extension fixed the issues and now the extension works and the hotkeys also work.
I love this extension but recently has been working bad, probably because the last Chrome update, hope developers can check this out because its a very helpful extension.
Does not work on Instagram. Action key for saving an image opens it instead. Cursor doesn't disappear while zooming a picture. No response on the Github for such problems. I hope there's a good replacement for this…
Used to be great. Now it works so infrequently that it's useless.
The author already have the code to upgrade the extention... he just choose not to implement it yet. At github there is a forked working version. Maybe it's time to upload it again with a new name.
**Updated Dec 14, 2025** Also it has issues with sites like Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter) and Reddit on posts with more than a single image. If the posts has two or more photos it will ONLY load the first one regardless of how many layers or pages there are. So I then end up using another partially working extension (Image Downloader | Suricata). All because Google decided to nix or update their policy which in turn has ruined our productivity by being forced to use these partially working/non-working extensions which don't do what they advertise. Thanks for nothing Google!!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
