This extension keeps a single pinned page to prevent closing Chrome when the last tab of the last window is closed (or every window, it's configurable). To keep the tab bar clean (unlike other extensions), the pinned page is inserted only when absolutely necessary. It also handles well cases when tabs are moved between windows.
"Don't Close Window With Last Tab" provides no user interface or interaction for users. It only lets users configure additional configuration in "Options".

Does what it says, thank you to the author for this great extension.
Doesnt keep windows open at all, instead just opens a new tab. Nothing in the options menus for it either.
Functionality is partially broken with Chrome updating to version 77. Upon opening Chrome focus is now on the first (the pinned) tab instead of the New Tab right next to it. You have to click the New Tab first otherwise the blank pinned tab gets changed and is also remembered when reopening Chrome a next time. Hope this issue gets fixed in an extension update.

Exactly what I needed, it never closes chrome when I close the last tab, and the new one that opens is the one I have as starting page, so, for me, it's great. Exactly the way I used to work with Firefox.

Doesn't seem to work. I'm in Vivaldi, which uses most Chrome extensions.
Eddig jól működött, de a Chrome 75 verzióval úgy tűnik már semmilyen funkciót nem lát el. Ha javítjátok adok 5 csillagot, addig használhatatlan.

Worked OK until I tried to reopen a closed tab. It flashed and was gone in milliseconds. Disabled this extension and it works again. If you fix that it will be great.
