"Auto Tab Discard" is a lightweight browser extension that automatically reduces the amount of memory used by open but inactive tabs, helping to conserve battery life on portable devices by disabling JavaScript code and DOM events on discarded tabs.

Like David said, I don't think this extension is working as it should right nów. With Chrome 126 it doesn't seem to auto discard anything, it works if I manually discard tabs tho'. When it works, it's great... so I give this 5 stars and hope that the developer can fix the issue.
Until recently, I would have given this a five-star review, as it greatly reduced the Chrome memory footprint. I typically have about 250 tabs open, which would soon become unmanageable. However, in the last few weeks, it no longer seems to work except when I close and reopen Chrome. Otherwise, tabs stay open indefinitely, even when I tell it to close all tabs. I assume there's been a change in Chrome that has interfered with it and hope the developer fixes it soon!

I'm using 2 profiles in Chrome. It would only work in one profile even if the other has it. Working on 2 profiles simultaneously sometimes works but most of the time it doesn't

AMAZING and thank you. What a huge difference. I set my settings to disable every 3 mins with two tabs are exceeded. So everytime I open a 3rd tab or more the other tabs are frozen.
I have assigned the behavior setting when left clicking on the toolbar to discarding the tab, but it does not work and I am discarding it when I right click. I would like to see a correction.
I love this extension, and it's incredibly helpful, since I have 100+ tabs open most of the time. But recently it's not obeying the on-click option I've set, which is to just discard the active tab. Instead I have to right-click and select "discard tab" from that. I'm also going to contact the dev about this but I figured I'd mention it here as well. Overall it's a fantastic extension, and has worked flawlessly up to this point!
Very helpful extension that has restored speed to my excessive tab-burdened browsing routine. However, one tiny yet huge suggestion: why not change the name to Tab Pause, Tab Park, Tab Time-Out, Tab Hiatus, Tab Breather, Tab Back Burner, Tab Respite, Tab Hold or something like that? Discard sounds like you're getting rid of the tab, as in deleting it forever. It's a bit confusing...
