A google search on the word "Fathom" returns this - understand (a difficult problem or an enigmatic person) after much thought. This is exactly how big of a problem fathom has solved for. As the history has reminded us over and over again, efficient systems will always replace in-efficient systems. In a way this applies to traditional note-taking as well. Fathom is not a replacement of traditional note-taking, I will explain it with an example. Traditional Note-taking is getaway car that is slow, always trying to keep up with the pace & running behind in the course of a discussion. Fathom is a red ferrari on nitro boost which let's you focus on what's important, it's being in the moment listening to people speak. Couple it with traditional note-taking and post meet physical notes and bang! You can achieve so much just by moving this small lever which let's you focus on the details.

I really enjoy this free app. It records my meeting and sends me a good summary afterwards including transcript. Sometimes the transcript does confuse the speakers and combine them into one but its okay. I watch the recoding for my sales calls and it is very helpful. And the recording and notes come immediately after the meeting which is great
