Try h264ify if YouTube videos stutter, take up too much CPU, eat battery life, or make your laptop hot.
By default, YouTube streams VP8/VP9 encoded video. However, this can cause problems with less powerful machines because VP8/VP9 is not typically hardware accelerated.
In contrast, H.264 is commonly hardware accelerated by GPUs, which usually means smoother video playback and reduced CPU usage. h264ify makes YouTube stream H.264 videos instead of VP8/VP9 videos.
Note: 4K and 1440p videos will not be available because YouTube no longer encodes those videos in H.264

برنامج اقل ما يقال عنه انه رائع
I liked this extension as the browser uses far less ressources on my Surface. However Chromium recently dropped h.264 Support for Html5 and I can't force YouTube to use Flash either, so they force me to use VP9 essentially and even worse, YouTube takes longer to encode a Video for VP9 than h264 so it just says "Your browser does not currently recognize any of the video formats available" on some videos.
Un ami me la conseiller ..ça marche bien.merci.
☺
Awesome extension. I really don't know what Google was thinking making VP9 default, especially on low-powered Chromebooks. This extension solves the problem, so no more having to use IE for watching Youtube without stuttering. Couldn't ask for anything more, does exactly what it says and doesn't have any problems. The CPU usage still isn't down to where IE is on 1080p60 (IE is 15%, Chrome is 30%), but I think that's Chrome's fault, not the extension's, and is still way better than the 80% it takes up when playing VP9. No stuttering, either.
bateria, ja estou indo te salvar :)
Appears to work well! For once now, the video I want to watch streams as smooth as the ad the comes before it!
Unfortunately necessary, but this extension works very well. Nice work @erkserkserks ^_^
