Excellent app and terrific business model.
I love the simplicity and intuitivity of Google Docs for writing my academic papers. However, the major drawback is the lack of proper reference management integration. Paperpile is by far the best-designed 3rd party solution that I have found to work with Google Docs. If you consider paying for well-designed software, then Paperpile is a very good recommendation.
Highly intuitive and reliable. So far I am amazed by how intelligently this citation manager operates compared to others that I have ever used. Plus, this works as a library for all the reading materials that I come across.

They were the first, and remain the best! At least for me. I've been with Paperpile for >10 years (my original review from 2014 was updated in 2025). It may well be that there are alternatives to Paperpile today, but I won't bother to even look, since Paperpile does everything I need perfectly. Huge thank you to the developers and support personnel from me and many of my colleague researchers who use you amazing tool regularly!
I am using it for few months now. It is clear and simple to use and has a lot of citation styles. Makes writing anything scientific with Google Docs just easy. Cannot wait for mobile app and MS Word integration, too.
I tried quite a few other reference managers, but Paperpile just excels in ease of use and convenience, especially for keeping an up to date collection of articles.
What I like best about this extension is the integration with google docs which allows me to write academic papers without having to shuttle referneces from one computer to another.
Echoing the thoughts of so many others, Paperpile is far-and-away the best reference manager I have tried. I'm especially excited to have a tool that is integrated with GDocs!
Simply the best reference manager. This is the future of manuscript writing right here, too bad most tenured professors are too stuck in the past to use google docs for writing papers, and so the standard of emailing multiple copies back and forth previals, often losing citation data in the process.
