AI product readChrome companion extension for Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition software, bridging Dragon's voice command capabilities to the Chrome browser via native messaging
Dragon NaturallySpeaking's built-in browser support cannot directly interact with modern web pages in Chrome. This extension enables Dragon users to use voice commands (clicking elements by name, dictating/editing text) within Chrome, including support for Google Docs and specialized web applications.
1) User installs Dragon NaturallySpeaking desktop software (v13+) and the Chrome extension. 2) The extension injects content scripts into all web pages. 3) When Dragon is running, the extension's background service worker connects to Dragon via Chrome native messaging (com.nuance.dgnria). 4) Voice commands spoken to Dragon are relayed through the native messaging host to the extension, which then parses the DOM, identifies clickable elements and editable fields, and executes the requested actions (click, dictate, edit) on the page.

- Target users
- Dragon NaturallySpeaking users (version 13+) who browse the web with Chrome / Professionals requiring hands-free web navigation and text input / Medical professionals using Dragon with web-based clinical applications
- Cannot inspect the native messaging host (com.nuance.dgnria) code or Dragon desktop application to verify full feature requirements
- Cannot confirm whether Dragon NaturallySpeaking itself requires a Nuance account or activation key beyond the initial software purchase
MonetizationNo paid features detected
The extension itself contains no payment logic, subscription checks, premium feature gating, billing APIs, or upgrade UI. Searches for premium, subscription, license, upgrade, payment, and purchase returned zero matches. Dragon NaturallySpeaking itself is a paid desktop product, but the extension does not gate or manage those paid features — it is a free companion that bridges Dragon to Chrome.

- Reason
- The extension is a local bridge between Chrome and the Dragon NaturallySpeaking desktop application. It communicates via Chrome's native messaging API (chrome.runtime.connectNative('com.nuance.dgnria')) — no login UI, no authentication flow, no account creation is implemented in the extension itself. The keyword hits for 'login' and 'auth' are all false positives from @author comments and commented-out debug logging strings.

Don't know what the heck it actually does. My computer keeps saying it's disabled. Whether or not it's enabled, I get the same result, which is basic functionality. I don't do much voice control of Google or Chrome, so it doesn't really matter to me, but it's disappointing to see all the negative reviews.
300$ for the software and a company that has been there for 10 years+ Difficult to believe that they have coded that. Terrible.
Very disappointing. I paid a ton of money for the Dragon Speech Recognition Software, and like others have said it works for a few minutes and then crashes. As an alternative, I've been using Speech Recognition Anywhere. There's a free version and you can upgrade to the full version.. I think the upgrade was only about $10. It doesn't have all the same functionality but if you just need something to transcribe your voice. It works pretty well and never crashes. Has anyone tried contacting Dragon to get money back?
I agree with all other reviews. Bad! Just upgrade from ver. 13 to Home 15. It is even worse. Rarely can dictate - even in Gmail. Does work most of time in Word ver. 2003. Rarely works in various areas of browser sites brought up by Chrome.
I'm really unhappy with this extension. I wish it was just able to write in the fields instead of popping up a dictation box.
Cannot write a review. Dragon 15 doesn't work. Disabled. Very difficult to type.
Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. At some point II usually have to shut down chrome and open it again for it to start working again. How can Dragon works be such a great product and not work with chrome. I love Dragon works and have been using it since Dragon works 5 or 6 and I would hate to be without it. However, having to continually open and close either chrome and/or Dragon works to get it to work is beyond frustrating. Either don't offer an extension or make sure it works.
I find it quite astounding to read through the 1st 25 reviews to find NOBODY is satisfied with this product! I haven't bothered to read further, but if I was Dragon I would be hanging my head in shame. I have used the product for more than 20 years, starting with Dragon 4. I am now on Dragon 15 Professional and things have got progressively worse over the years. I can't dictate into Excel or PowerPoint and in spite of having spoken to Customer Service - There is no resolution. The salesperson told me to upgrade to this version and that would fix it all! Well it hasn't and $300 later, I am not a happy camper either!
here is a great opportunity for any company which can develop software for speech recognition allowing to dictate from a smart Phone to the PC. couple years ago Dragon had this feature, unfortunately developers have different perception of the definition "progress". Three steps backwards, pretty disappointed.
With more people using Google these days, you would think that Dragon over the years would catch up. My voice to type keyboard on my android devices work better. I used to be able to type in Facebook with my voice, now the script is there but the message box does not recognize the text. Dragon 13 worked much better for me with Google
