AI product readChrome companion extension for Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition software, bridging Dragon's voice command capabilities to the Chrome browser via native messaging
Dragon NaturallySpeaking's built-in browser support cannot directly interact with modern web pages in Chrome. This extension enables Dragon users to use voice commands (clicking elements by name, dictating/editing text) within Chrome, including support for Google Docs and specialized web applications.
1) User installs Dragon NaturallySpeaking desktop software (v13+) and the Chrome extension. 2) The extension injects content scripts into all web pages. 3) When Dragon is running, the extension's background service worker connects to Dragon via Chrome native messaging (com.nuance.dgnria). 4) Voice commands spoken to Dragon are relayed through the native messaging host to the extension, which then parses the DOM, identifies clickable elements and editable fields, and executes the requested actions (click, dictate, edit) on the page.

- Target users
- Dragon NaturallySpeaking users (version 13+) who browse the web with Chrome / Professionals requiring hands-free web navigation and text input / Medical professionals using Dragon with web-based clinical applications
- Cannot inspect the native messaging host (com.nuance.dgnria) code or Dragon desktop application to verify full feature requirements
- Cannot confirm whether Dragon NaturallySpeaking itself requires a Nuance account or activation key beyond the initial software purchase
MonetizationNo paid features detected
The extension itself contains no payment logic, subscription checks, premium feature gating, billing APIs, or upgrade UI. Searches for premium, subscription, license, upgrade, payment, and purchase returned zero matches. Dragon NaturallySpeaking itself is a paid desktop product, but the extension does not gate or manage those paid features — it is a free companion that bridges Dragon to Chrome.

- Reason
- The extension is a local bridge between Chrome and the Dragon NaturallySpeaking desktop application. It communicates via Chrome's native messaging API (chrome.runtime.connectNative('com.nuance.dgnria')) — no login UI, no authentication flow, no account creation is implemented in the extension itself. The keyword hits for 'login' and 'auth' are all false positives from @author comments and commented-out debug logging strings.

Here is the irony! I can't even write my own review in the comments field because the Dragon web extension doesn't work. What an absolute waste of time and labor going back and forth between restarting and closing it down. For some of us having to login. And I spent $150 on this? I had no problems with Dragon 13. They forced me into spending $150 to upgrade to something that has failed in almost every application I've tried not to mention the fact that there was no upgrade and accuracy or speed. They just force you every year to purchase a new product just like cell phone companies. Ridiculous and sad after 20 years of experience using Dragon and Nuance products.
Dreadful – this sums up this chrome extension. The setup example is too fast and not explicit. It needs updating almost every time one opens a computer. As a user from series 5, whilst all the bobs and whistles have improved over the Years, Basic dictation if anything deteriorates. Seldom have I witnessed such an expensive product as number 15 3 being so unsatisfactory – an absolute disgrace to the name of Nuance
It keeps disabling itself. Doesn't seem o want to work very well overall.
I am having to use the keyboard most the time of this software is very unreliable. Even when it works it does not dictate as accurately as it should for £300 software, I am glad that I didn't pay full price and DSA provided it for me as it rather satisfactory at best. If you went does work it does not dictate accurately and it misses word out And putting random capital letters. It keeps uninstalling itself and it crashes a lot of the time. However, I found it to work more efficiently when I have added a few of the Dragon software is on at the same time. There is software that works better than this free.
I don't care what the price is....I've paid and it didn't matter. This is a company that just doesn't care at all for it's customers. I have DND in my Windows laptop and it works (mostly) but on Chromebook no t at all. And don't get me started about the iPad crappy version for $150. Never worked.
DNS Works better in WORD than it does in Outlook. In either program, one unfortunately is required to read over the dictated information captured to be sure DNS entered it correct – quite often it does not. In Outlook, whenever DNS is used. The program will freeze if one tries to go back into the sentence and correct something by dictating the correction. The only way it works is if one clicks on the space to be corrected and enter the information by hand. Additionally, not all navigation commands work properly.
iedere keer bij opstarten Chrome krijg ik de melding dat de plugin is uitgeschakeld. Moet hem telkens opnieuw activeren...
I love Dragon. The glitches with browsers have as much to do with decisions by their makers, don't they? No voice to text matches the accuracy and breadth of Dragon.
Not working as well as I would like.
To inconsistent. Mine will only work for about 2 mins and crashes or just stops recording. Then it picks up words not even spoken. This software cost me $200 and they don't respond to help or errors in this developer does not offer support. Very disappointed in this. I have a 5 hour recording to go through on my own since this does not pickup ANY of the speakers full presentation. What it does pickup is worthless. Don't spend your money!
