Update 2: Uninstalled - this is better: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/modern-for-wikipedia/emdkdnnopdnajipoapepbeeiemahbjcn Update: Every couple of days it will have logged me out and I'll have to go through the rigmarole of logging in, migrating settings, reading about all the benefits of "omni", being forced through to a subscription page where I have to select the free version. I'm sure that's just an accident though, not by design. The sooner a competitor comes out the better. In the meantime will probably just go back to normal wikipedia. Updated to put all the best features that have been free forever behind a $10 monthly subscription. No way is that worth it for what is essentially changing the formatting of the page, which is all I ever needed it for. Seems from the company's responses they got greedy and tried to add a load of unwanted features in order to justify charging such an exorbitant amount for it. $120 per year is nuts. I would pay a one-off price of $5, max.

Forced out a new massive update today with absolutely no warning. The new update completely overhauls the entire service and UI and it's massively worse than it was before. The fact that there was zero warning about this and it just suddenly applied this unbelievable downgrade in usability and quality is just mind boggling. The new setup seems to assume that all of their users don't care about actually being able to *read* articles and instead focuses on nonsense AI tools that will summarize or answer questions about the article. I'd bet that less than 1% of users of this service care one bit about these stupid, useless, and untrustworthy AI features. The other 99% of us have been shafted for no reason. All I use this for is to access a good looking dark mode of wikipedia because their built-in dark mode is absolutely terrible. It literally just inverts the white background to pure black with no option for a much nicer dark charcoal gray that would be much easier on the eyes, like what Wikiwand has. But if this new update isn't deleted and we aren't allowed to return to the old version of wikiwand that existed prior to August 2024, then I won't be using this anymore, and I would guess that they are about to lose greater than 90% of their previous users. Nice one wikiwand. You really screwed up big time, enjoy going out of business cuz nobody is gonna pay to unlock extra fonts and nobody is gonna use this anymore with your disgustingly awful new UI. Byeeeeeee see you never.

Very surprised that they just roll out the new update to everyone without even giving the option to switch back. No language switching is the deal-breaker for me. Disabling it.

For one thing this update is troublesome. Why I cannot change the font of Chinese characters? Noto Serif SC doesn't take any effect! Just fix this please! As well as other things mentioned in the comments!

The new update brought down the UX massively. The previous design was so good! And now the warm color theme is behind a paywall? No point in using this extension anymore, especially since I reeeally do not want or need the AI stuff. I tried to go to the un-omni URL but it just redirects to the front page, so it's no use. The AI stuff is so unnecessary and an eyesore and the previous design was much better. A big step backwards for Wikiwand.

Yep, gotta agree with everyone else. Previous design was amazing, this one looks worse than plain Wikipedia and has removed/paywalled all of the functionality I installed Wikiwand for in the first place. The boilerplate "we think this awful, less functional design is the way forward" official responses followed by a link to the old design that doesn't actually work, does not inspire confidence either. Nor does the lack of option within the extension to keep using the original design.
