I'm only going back to Voice because Hangouts is going away. I was surprised the extension doesn't even have the functionality it did when I switched off of it to Hangouts circa 2013. Either put effort behind G-Voice or Get Messages integrated with G-Voice! Why even have an extension if it only redirects to the web anyway?

This Google Voice extension does not alert you when you receive a new text, unlike the Google Hangout extension. The only thing this Voice extension does is redirecting you to the Voice website. I installed this Voice extension only because Hangout is going away. Please improve this Voice extension to have the features that Hangout used to have. Thanks.

I think the negative reviews this extension has been receiving has less to do with extension (which does what it claims to do), and more to do with the continued confusion created by Google's inability to chart a clear course for its telecom products over the last few years. Added to that, with no clear "desktop" replacement for Hangouts and a notice that voice and text would be leaving Hangouts, people were bound to react negatively. I fully expect Google to launch a "real" replacement for the "Hangouts Voice" experience, but for now, you can "install" the Google Voice website (Options Menu > More tools > Create shortcut -> Check "Open as window") to regain some of the ease of use of the Hangouts App/Extension... With the added bonus of being able to use any "Dark mode" extensions you're currently using ;) Caveat: Using the aforementioned steps, I have been able to "Pin" the Window to the Taskbar and re-open it by clicking the Pinned icon. While this is an improvement over the Hangouts Extension (which had to be opened from the icon in the Notification Tray or from within Chrome if the window had been closed), I have yet to receive any notifications. All of the settings appear to be configured to allow notifications but I have not received any. This may be a deal breaker for some who don't have the screen real estate for a perpetually open window or the attention span to continually check it. Hopefully a full fledged replacement for Hangouts will materialize soon, but in the meantime, at least we have options. --- This extension lost 1 star because the screenshots don't show the actual extension, which I find misleading. And another simply because the popup the extension creates is quite small and rather unattractive. Perhaps if I relied on the "click to call" stuff it does, I wouldn't care as much about the popup, but I don't use that feature very often (if at all). I was drawn to this extension because the screenshots made it look as if it was similar to the Hangouts extension, so I suppose you could say this extension has lost 2 stars from me simply because of the misleading screenshots. I will probably uninstall the extension if it does not interfere with the window/shortcut I created in the steps outlined above.

Wow! You did it! You took an already useless extension and made it even more useless. At least before I could use the extension to take me to the Google Voice site. Who is working on this project?

Google's trashing another great service (hangouts) and forcing everyone to Voice...except Voice extension is lightyears behind Hangouts. Google continually screws over paying (GSuite) customers. I've had my number since before Google bought it (anyone remember GrandCentral?)...but after ~15 years I guess it's time to move away. It's pretty easy to replicate most of the functionality at any SIP provider now-a-days. I don't use them for 'reader' anymore. They trashed 'inbox'. They're trying to make various Android services for-pay (i.e. 'photos'). They completely screwed up the Google Home experience for GSuite users...threw them in the trash a year ago. Soon they'll mess with the calendar app and I'll be completely disconnected from Google.

Only good for making phone calls. Now that we can't use Hangouts for SMS/MMS messages and we're forced to use "Voice", it would be nice to see some chat features added to the extension. Click the extension and see all your messages with reply options. Having an extension to simply launch a web page is useless. That's what "favorites" are for. Let's also see a new message count on the extension icon like we get with Hangouts.

BRING BACK THE ABILITY TO WRITE TEXTS THROUGH THE EXTENSION! This extension is useless. It's basically a bookmark. You can't do anything other than be redirected to the google voice site to make a call. We need the text function back.

I used to love this extension, but the Clickable Numbers option "Turn phone numbers on websites into click to call links".no longer lets me select my primary phone in a popup and initiate a call. This used to work up until about 9 or 10 days ago. Now I have to copy the number and paste it in to the Voice page in the area that says "Enter a name or number" next to the telephone icon towards the top right of the screen. Can you guys please get the one-click function working again?
