It was working well until mid July, now it no longer sends texts. They still come in and provide an alert, however. Regardless, the extension is essentially dead.
Why would they kill a perfectly fine extension...
They have killed this extension without any warning, rather than updating it, replacing it or doing anything. You can still receive messages (as of right now, we'll see how long that lasts). But, you can no longer send messages. This is very disappointing since they discontinued the Windows application (some time ago) that was its own program independent of Chrome so that Chrome did not have to be running. I hate having to open the Voice page to send one message because it takes literally 15-20 seconds to load regardless of device, be it Windows in Chrome or any browser, or an Android or iPhone it IS ALWAYS SLOW. So why would you take away the only part of this that was stable and no such a PITA?
For about a week the extension has been completely broke. Unable to send any messages.
I seem to have lost the ability to direct my outgoing call to my choice of phone. It still shows this option in the images displayed in the store.
No longer sends texts. Developers: please help! Update: If you're looking for why the Chrome Extension no longer works, here is what the developers said: In 2017, we launched an updated user interface (UI) for Google Voice and announced we would be phasing out the legacy UI. As part of this plan, we are turning off the ability to send text messages (SMS) in both the legacy Google Voice web interface as well as the Google Voice Chrome extension.
This used to be awesome, recently it stopped allowing me to send texts. It'll say "please try again" in red after I hit send. Trying again never seems to work.
Used to be the best extension i ever had. now that I google has shut down text messaging, this thing is completely useless
Was great until they removed the ability to send text messages, Now I have to open up voice.google.com site. This defeats the whole purpose of having the extension.
Google is no longer allowing outgoing SMS messaging using the extension. It has severely hampered the functionality of this extension. Unfortunately, one must now go to the poorly designed Google Voice website to send outgoing text messages. Google whatever happened to keeping things simple and fast?
