I'm hoping that this latest update is a mistake, and that they are working on a fix as I type this.
This latest update to the extension no longer even has the option to direct you to the Voice website when you click it - it's now quite literally just to make clickable links out of phone numbers on websites. What an absolute joke...
Latest update is really bad.
My caution to users is to NOT turn on the "Voice icons" feature of this extension. The GV extension tries to find phone numbers on the pages shown in the browser and add clickable GV icons following each of them. The extension options panel says that it looks for "E.164-format phone numbers". However, in practical use it could be any string of numbers. For example, I received an email in GMail from a colleague to meeting at "2021-12-07 10:00 - 11:00". The GV extension interpreted that as a phone number, putting its icon immediately after "2021-12-07 10". It's annoying to see that there, taking up space, but also the icon is a different height than the text, so it put all of the formatting off.
The chrome extension has stopped functioning correctly today. Totally broken and worthless now.
Google Voice is NOT working in my Chrome browser with today's (12/15/21) extension update. Please fix or advise ASAP! Thanks.
Functionality pretty much removed
Used to open a Google Voice tab when clicked, which is the only thing I cared about, but that capability has now been removed (in version 3), making it useless to me. "Google giveth, and Google taketh away." I'm reverting to 2.5.35 with a hack to stop updates.
used to be great. for years. now it doesn't even open texts. I rely on this for work. horrible...
The devs should take another crack at some working regex to parse phone numbers on pages. Fun times this morning when the extension updated and detected all of the dates in the ticketing system I use for work as clickable phone numbers.
