NewsGuard's reliability ratings for news and information sources help users make decisions about which news sources to trust—and avoid misinformation and disinformation.

Our ratings, scores, and Nutrition Labels for websites are displayed next to links on search engines and social media platforms and cover all the news websites accounting for 95% of online engagement.

Ratings are conducted by a team of experienced journalists using nine basic, apolitical journalistic criteria. Each site receives a trust score of 0-100, an overall rating level ranging from “High Credibility” to “Proceed with Caution,” and a thorough Nutrition Label report detailing the site’s ownership and financing, content, credibility practices, transparency practices, and history.

Considering both left and right wing folk are complaining about it, it must be doing something right. Being able to see which categories make a site red or green is what makes this plugin worthwhile (especially since it might only be "but for the grace of one category" scenario).

I've been waiting for something like this for a long time. This is the best execution I've found to date of an online publication report card that can be used in real-time. Extremely relevant given the rise of fake news sites leading up to the 2016 election and beyond. All of the reviews on here commenting on how it favors leftist sites simply choose to ignore any evidence to the contrary. For example, in the CNN "full nutrition label", it clearly points out examples of anti-Trump reporting and instances where their reporters have procured false information within stories written about President Trump. The label then details the aftermath of such incidents and how the network retracted that information and dealt with the staff who were responsible for the fake story. In its assessment of HuffPost, Newsguard specifically mentions that the publication irresponsibly fail to disclose their liberal slant to readers and therefore docks them on that particular category. There are several conservative media sites that receive good marks like Fox News and Daily Mail. Undoubtedly, if more ppl use this we can begin to hold fake news outlets more accountable and bring some integrity back into the world of online news.

This is great tool to sift through the best news sources online. Quality staff that professionally evaluate news sites and give their reasons for their ratings in nutrition labels.

First thing I did to check how trustworthy this would be was visit some UK tabloids that are known for repeatedly publishing false stories among other more serious indiscretions. All you need to know about this plugin is that The Sun has a perfect score. It seems obvious that this is just a legacy media = good, new media = Bad plugin. I could have coded that myself without the help of "trained analysts, who are experienced journalists". Avoid this and use your own skepticism/fact-checking when reading the news.

It has proven fake news sites like NYT, Washington Post, CNN, NBC, MSNBC rated has completely trustworthy with every criterion checked green. That is laughable given the numerous fake news stories those organizations have published. The extension was obviously programmed by politically biased people with an agenda thus it is useless and untrustworthy.

Newsguard ist eine zu exakt 100,0 Prozent nutzlose Erweiterung - zumindest für den User. Wer alles glaubt, was er bei Tagesschau und Co liest, hat sowieso schon seinen Verstand abgegeben und benötigt dazu nicht auch noch einen grünen Phallus der hirnlosen Online-Nanny über dem Fenster. Wer einen Hausbesuch von Antifa und/oder Staatssicherheit erwartet, kann sich aber wenigstens über die Arbeitserleichterung für IQ-schwache Ermittler freuen. Das Ding legt nämlich in den Untiefen von ~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Extensions/ (beziehungsweise seiner Geschwister) eine praktische Bibliothek von politisch nicht korrekten Websites an, die man/frau/kind irgendwann besucht hat. Das Ding sollte man täglich an Big Brother mailen, damit man dort *noch* weniger Arbeit hat. Wer seine Ehefrau ausspionieren will, sollte diese Erweiterung benutzen! Schließlich muss man immer auf die Gesinnung achten - die Kontrolle ist *während* des Wahlvorgangs in der Kabine in Deutschland derzeit (noch) nicht erlaubt. Wenn ich böse® werde, programmiere ich für Newsguard mal eben ein Proggie, das via USB-Stick auf die Schnelle die Gesinnungsdatei aus den "Voreinstellungen" klaut. Also schnell weg hier, bevor ich über DSGVO und nach-Hause-telefonieren nachdenke. :-(
