AI product readChrome companion extension for Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition software, bridging Dragon's voice command capabilities to the Chrome browser via native messaging
Dragon NaturallySpeaking's built-in browser support cannot directly interact with modern web pages in Chrome. This extension enables Dragon users to use voice commands (clicking elements by name, dictating/editing text) within Chrome, including support for Google Docs and specialized web applications.
1) User installs Dragon NaturallySpeaking desktop software (v13+) and the Chrome extension. 2) The extension injects content scripts into all web pages. 3) When Dragon is running, the extension's background service worker connects to Dragon via Chrome native messaging (com.nuance.dgnria). 4) Voice commands spoken to Dragon are relayed through the native messaging host to the extension, which then parses the DOM, identifies clickable elements and editable fields, and executes the requested actions (click, dictate, edit) on the page.

- Target users
- Dragon NaturallySpeaking users (version 13+) who browse the web with Chrome / Professionals requiring hands-free web navigation and text input / Medical professionals using Dragon with web-based clinical applications
- Cannot inspect the native messaging host (com.nuance.dgnria) code or Dragon desktop application to verify full feature requirements
- Cannot confirm whether Dragon NaturallySpeaking itself requires a Nuance account or activation key beyond the initial software purchase
MonetizationNo paid features detected
The extension itself contains no payment logic, subscription checks, premium feature gating, billing APIs, or upgrade UI. Searches for premium, subscription, license, upgrade, payment, and purchase returned zero matches. Dragon NaturallySpeaking itself is a paid desktop product, but the extension does not gate or manage those paid features — it is a free companion that bridges Dragon to Chrome.

- Reason
- The extension is a local bridge between Chrome and the Dragon NaturallySpeaking desktop application. It communicates via Chrome's native messaging API (chrome.runtime.connectNative('com.nuance.dgnria')) — no login UI, no authentication flow, no account creation is implemented in the extension itself. The keyword hits for 'login' and 'auth' are all false positives from @author comments and commented-out debug logging strings.

This is my 2nd 1 star review. I exchanged Dragon 13 for Dragon 15 and the Chrome extension is as fickle as ever. I need Dragon most for writing many emails in a day and it's a real drag on my productivity to have to jump into the dictation box whenever I want to write an email and then wrestled the text into my Gmail. For all the money spent on this product I can't believe that this basic functionality is so hit or miss.
This is a very buggy extension. As a Dragon user since version 7 I have been waiting for good browser integration. I cannot believe it's still not here yet. I can't even spell a webpage up and down with the page up-down commands. I hope Nuance releases a service pack for this version when Windows 10 comes out Windows 10 compatibility and a cumulative bug fix for this Dragon version. I will be reluctant to pay to upgrade to a Dragon 14 so soon after this version.
I cannot get it to work. I already own the dragon program and used it on my other computer. I do not understand how something so simple chrome makes so difficult.
Doesn't work at all with chrome... silly really as what's the point?
take it or leave it
I use Dragon for up to 4 hours a day. This Chrome extension works randomly. On 1 computer it works great. On another computer with same settings it does not work at all. Guess which is my most used computer? Anyway - it gets a 1 rating for one computer and a 4 rating on the other computer. Go figure! I simply do not understand why there is a need for this on Dragon Waikato Dragon just post directly like it does on other software is? Dragon works well except with chrome! I think it maybe Chrome updates that have wrecked it - what is even dumber is that Firefox extension also plays up too - so maybe Nuance dragon needs to do some fine tuning - after all the extension was last created end December 2016
Sometimes have issues dictating into gmail. Voice navigation around pages and clicking on links seems to be working.
This extension does not work well. Dictating directly to a web page in Chrome is slow with many dropped words. It is enough to make me try another browser for dictating.
Keine Funktionen
This web extension does not support the full text editing capabilities of Dragon in any capacity. It still brings up the dictation box when entering text in any text field and does not recognize commands for navigating the browser or sending emails. Dragon 13 is a fantastic piece of software but this extension does not function.
