AI product readChrome companion extension for Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition software, bridging Dragon's voice command capabilities to the Chrome browser via native messaging
Dragon NaturallySpeaking's built-in browser support cannot directly interact with modern web pages in Chrome. This extension enables Dragon users to use voice commands (clicking elements by name, dictating/editing text) within Chrome, including support for Google Docs and specialized web applications.
1) User installs Dragon NaturallySpeaking desktop software (v13+) and the Chrome extension. 2) The extension injects content scripts into all web pages. 3) When Dragon is running, the extension's background service worker connects to Dragon via Chrome native messaging (com.nuance.dgnria). 4) Voice commands spoken to Dragon are relayed through the native messaging host to the extension, which then parses the DOM, identifies clickable elements and editable fields, and executes the requested actions (click, dictate, edit) on the page.

- Target users
- Dragon NaturallySpeaking users (version 13+) who browse the web with Chrome / Professionals requiring hands-free web navigation and text input / Medical professionals using Dragon with web-based clinical applications
- Cannot inspect the native messaging host (com.nuance.dgnria) code or Dragon desktop application to verify full feature requirements
- Cannot confirm whether Dragon NaturallySpeaking itself requires a Nuance account or activation key beyond the initial software purchase
MonetizationNo paid features detected
The extension itself contains no payment logic, subscription checks, premium feature gating, billing APIs, or upgrade UI. Searches for premium, subscription, license, upgrade, payment, and purchase returned zero matches. Dragon NaturallySpeaking itself is a paid desktop product, but the extension does not gate or manage those paid features — it is a free companion that bridges Dragon to Chrome.

- Reason
- The extension is a local bridge between Chrome and the Dragon NaturallySpeaking desktop application. It communicates via Chrome's native messaging API (chrome.runtime.connectNative('com.nuance.dgnria')) — no login UI, no authentication flow, no account creation is implemented in the extension itself. The keyword hits for 'login' and 'auth' are all false positives from @author comments and commented-out debug logging strings.

I had tried using 13 for a week now but it just does not control over how the applications that I use including Chrome. I cannot dictate in the URL bar, e-mails, Facebook, or just about anything else. I am a spinal cord injury survivor and rely on Dragon NaturallySpeaking heavily. I have been using 11.5 professional for years and bought 13 in hopes that it would be better than 11.5 and was greatly disappointed.
very disappointing. If you try to use the carriage return it doesn't work. Doesn't allow selection of individual words. Completely sucks, my two cents. every release progressively gets worse. I've gotten to the point now where I won't purchase it anymore. I don't know where this company is headed but it it's not in the right direction.
With all of the brainstorming, drafts, editing, bla bla bla, stuff I've been doing creating websites and e-books my corporal tunnel is giving me hell so I'm trying to take a load off of pounding away at my keyboard
It has bugs. I found if you reload a tab all the iframe embedded pages inside that tab may stop working until you right click and reload frame. This extension doesn't correctly handle the iframe to extension communication problem. And many websites are littered with iframes.
I bought Dragon 13 because it had this extension and was supposed to work with the Chrome browser. The extension does not work properly. For example, it does not work at all with Google Docs. I contacted the manufacturer (Nuance) about the problem. Here is what they had to say: "Based on what you have previously responded, we do not see anywhere it explicitly stated that NaturallySpeaking has the capability to dictate directly in Google Docs. The description of the Dragon Web Extension as seen from the Chrome Webstore is as follows: The Dragon Web Extension for Google Chrome enables you to use Dragon NaturallySpeaking Version 13 to dictate into and control web applications by simply using your voice. This extension requires that you have installed Dragon NaturallySpeaking Version 13. Create and manage web emails, fill in forms, dictate documents, and more, all using Dragon NaturallySpeaking Version 13. It does not state anything about Google Docs."
dose not work
doesnt work with facebook
This app does not interact with dragon 13 at all.
This is so frustrating because it works just enough for you not to give up on it ... but doesnt work often enough. Cant believe that Nuance doesnt care about this. It's Google, hello?
Google chrome fonctionne carrément mieux avec Dragon NaturallySpeaking français version 13,sans cette bizarre extension barbare ! Complètement inutile !
