High Contrast lets you browse the web with your choice of several high-contrast color filters designed to make it easier to read text.
When you install this extension, all pages are "inverted", so black becomes white and white becomes black. Press the "browser action" icon in the toolbar to toggle it on and off, or customize your settings on a per-site basis. Use a convenient keyboard shortcut to quickly change your settings while your browse.
Other extensions try to change the default colors, but this ends up breaking many popular websites. Only this extension applies filters to your page that invert almost everything - the only exception is photos, which are left alone.
Also note that the Chrome web store and other built-in pages like the New Tab page and Settings pages are unaffected - extensions like this one are not allowed to modify them, by design.

I hate reading newspapers in the dark. I always end up straining my eyes. Now not so much of a problem, also works with google books. You don't see the crappy edges of the book when the colors are inverted. That being said, you have to constantly turn it off and on if you want to see pictures clearly.
The first extension to finally make it easy to reverse colors PER WEBSITE. Bravo!

This tool works ok for some wesites, doesn't work well with most however. The Shift+F11 shorcut works sometimes; other times doesn't.
Offers four schemes - High Contrast, Greyscale, Inverted, Inverted Greyscale. Does not have the ability to invert the light-dark without inverting hue. Very disappointing. Would want to see checkboxes that would allow me to enable a high contrast, inverted but hue maintained mode, and remove the high contrast at a whim, or add greyscale effect if desired. Would also like to be able to prevent the modification of photos. Love the black out theme but cannot use it when it's missing the ability to maintain color! Love how it works on most things, though. Pictures, whatever. It all inverts. :-)

I started to get headaches and experience blind spots from staring at the standard white screen background while working long hours. High Contrast was the answer for me. I just wish I had discovered this much sooner. Great plug-in. Only gripe is somewhere around 50% off all pictures invert also. Oh well minor trade-off in order to save my eyes.
