Chrome doesn't allow you to configure a new tab URL.
It always opens its New Tab Page with a search bar and some browsing history.
With this extension, you can use the options page to store a link to a page or even a path to a local file that will be loaded when a new tab is created.
It is very lightweight and easy to use!
For people who prefer dark mode, try enabling the following Chrome builtin flag:

Works perfectly. Do two things after installing: 1. Right-click the extension, select "options", enable the extension and set the URL/file. 2. Right-click the extension, select "Manage extension", then enable the first, third, and fifth slider button. Done.
This extension works great! This is such a simple yet useful extension, thank you for creating it. For those who gave it one star, be sure to manage the extension and configure it how you want it to behave. You may also need to check your Chrome settings.
Worked great!
Trash fails out of the box. Some people shouldn't do software development and go work at McDonalds instead
This extension works. People who complain that it does not work did not select the three dots on the extension and choose Extension options to enter the url or local path in the box they want.
Enabled per screenshot for local files. but there is no place in the extension to enter a URL. appears this extension does nothing and cannot be configured.
Perfect. Works on local files (but you have to enable in settings)
Most USELESS extension ever tell me how google and YouTube don't work with it? Like seriously two of the biggest freaking websites don't want to work with it? What's the point in this if it wont even function properly?
Works perfectly w/ one minor annoyance. When opening a new tab, the URL bar is focused/selected/highlighted which means that if you click the URL bar to for example do a search or type an URL the URL end up being: "https://fredriks-startup-page.eu/https://www.hotmail.com" Which ofc. ends up doing the wrong thing. If the extension would focus the page element instead it would get a 5 from me.
Doesn't work for local files. Even default Chrome lets you set the Startup page to a "file://". For anyone seeking a solution to have both startup page and new tab page be a simple offline HTML file - this ain't it.
