It DOESN'T WORK! The old chrome app worked fine but since Google switched to the extension, it does not work. As soon as it tries to write the file to the USB drive, it crashes chrome. Can't recover my fleet of chromebooks now that I can't make a new USB.
So when it works, it does what we need. We use a specific version for our fleet, so we have the images, but this does good for what we need. Until the latest update on Chrome for PC. Now it breaks. Every. Single. Time. We contacted Google support--their feedback? Did you try contacting the developer? YOU. Google, YOU are the developer. We are abandoning it and using Rufus (rufus.ie). Works the same. You just have to download your Chrome images for your model. We use this semi-official site: https://cros-updates-serving.appspot.com/ Come on, Google...do better.
Had issues with crashing as well. Reverted to Chrome 86 and it works. Not ideal, but it better than nothing.
Attempted to download more than a dozen times. After it tries to write to usb and pop up asks to allow to make changes to computer the whole thing crashes closing all tabs including the download pop up and nothing downloads. No, there is nothing wrong with the internet and computer is hard wired. Someone in another review claims that 'changing the name of file helps', no idea where in the world you would do that. Maybe if you are some sort of computer tech you might know but for the regular user and user of this type of machine, we bought this trying to get away from this sort of thing, that means nothing and it should not be this difficult. Now I have a useless Chromebook. I guess its back to windows.
For people reading this in 2021 I would like to add few details that might help you: Using Window10 1- You should launch chrome browser using admin access, if you don't a popup will appears on the end of the usb copy asking for permissions closing the browser and then the extension by answering either yes or no 2- You should have at least an 8g usb key or sd card 3- You should have at least 8g free space on the second computer disk ps: if you're using linux have a look on the `Other ways to recover a Chromebook` section in the official google support `Recover your Chromebook` section
Se descarga los archivos pero luego se cierra el chrome. No hace nada

Stays on 0% for the rest of the month
