NewsGuard's reliability ratings for news and information sources help users make decisions about which news sources to trust—and avoid misinformation and disinformation.

Our ratings, scores, and Nutrition Labels for websites are displayed next to links on search engines and social media platforms and cover all the news websites accounting for 95% of online engagement.

Ratings are conducted by a team of experienced journalists using nine basic, apolitical journalistic criteria. Each site receives a trust score of 0-100, an overall rating level ranging from “High Credibility” to “Proceed with Caution,” and a thorough Nutrition Label report detailing the site’s ownership and financing, content, credibility practices, transparency practices, and history.

gives every site with well-documented and very recent problems spreading fake news a 'green' rating, as long as they are liberal media. sites with no credibility issues are given a 'red' rating if they are even slightly conservative or have recently caused trouble for the democratic party. more proof big tech needs to regulated.

State of the Art in Trust NewsGuard is a state of the art application to help news consumers figure out who to trust and why. It provides a simple system to know who you can trust, who you can't and why. In an era of fake news, this is an important, vital filter for people and researchers to have in their toolbox to ensure the accuracy of information we consume and reference.

When newspapers like The Sun and Daily Mail print right wing propaganda on their front pages with seemingly little or no regard for whether there is even an ounce of truth, then we are crying out for a service like NewsGuard. These newspapers have the highest circulation in the UK and as such they have undue influence on our democratic processes - so much so that political parties historically have had to cosy up to them in order to have any chance in elections. They print the false propaganda on the front page with the apologies and retractions in tiny print on page 32, which shows how ineffective UK regulation is. Most of the readership never read the apologies and retractions - they still believe MMR is dangerous and that sweeteners cause cancer in humans (rather than mice)! We need something to counteract the real fake news, which has been poisoning the ill-educated towards hatred towards minorities for far too long. Hopefully NewsGuard will be a first step in the right direction. With its clear warning regarding The Mail's poor journalistic standards - and the attendant complaints from small minded UKIP supporters - it looks like it is already having an appropriate impact.

Its worse than fake news, i've tested it and believe me its as biased as hell . Its biased in favour of left wing news sites, to be honest i think its should be removed as its truly is a fake app. I wouldn't use it anymore as god know what else its up to. The idiots giving it 5 stars are more than likely employees or socialist left wing supporters.

Good idea. Unfortunately appears to send browsing data back, which could have been easily avoided.

-Updated review- I liked the idea of this add on as it was accurate when I started to use it. I just discovered that they gave the Daily Mail a green tick so I have instantly removed this from my Chrome as I lost trust in them. -Original Review- Finally a way to fight fake news. I love this plug in and I can't wait until I can use it on Facebook and mobile. Also, I love the feature that I can submit websites that haven't been checked yet.

I really like it. They are transparent about their criteria for rating websites which helps avoiding the suspicion of political bias. Coverage could be better, but then again it's a relatively new product and it makes sense to focus on the bigger media outlets first. The appearance itself is very unobtrusive, you'll only see more information once you hover over the little icon this extension adds for certain sources.

FOX News and the other BS-peddling MSM sites (CNN et al) get a green check, and Wikileaks gets a red and this evidence-free gem: "WikiLeaks has published government secrets as well as sensitive personal information, and strategically published hacked emails, traced to the Kremlin, that hurt Democrats ahead of the 2016 presidential election." Barely-disguised contempt for non-establishment approved news and information by a company with a board that has such people as a former NSA director on it. Why live in North Korea when it can come to you! Uninstalling because I value the free exchange of ideas and information.
