NewsGuard's reliability ratings for news and information sources help users make decisions about which news sources to trust—and avoid misinformation and disinformation.

Our ratings, scores, and Nutrition Labels for websites are displayed next to links on search engines and social media platforms and cover all the news websites accounting for 95% of online engagement.

Ratings are conducted by a team of experienced journalists using nine basic, apolitical journalistic criteria. Each site receives a trust score of 0-100, an overall rating level ranging from “High Credibility” to “Proceed with Caution,” and a thorough Nutrition Label report detailing the site’s ownership and financing, content, credibility practices, transparency practices, and history.

This is defective, doesn't work properly, it labels known fake stories as true and true stories as fake. I guess this extension bans entire domain names which is not only stupid but useless!

More like Controversy Guard. Establishment and pro-establishment perspectives are unquestionably given "the green light" (or rating) even while getting things embarrassingly wrong. Meanwhile independent dissenting voices are marked down allegedly because "credibility" concerns, and are not given a fair shake. This new tool is backed by unelected bureaucrats in Washington, with the goal of shrinking & stifling the range of acceptable discussion on political issues. With this in mind, it is even being installed on all school and library computers, in some states. While potentially a good concept in theory, not so in practice when funded & backed by the corrupt establishment, and lacks objectivity and impartiality. Better off letting "We The People," reach our own informed positions. We are smart enough to do so, without someone telling us what we can and cannot think or read.

The NewsGuard advisory board says it all. Leading off is Tom Ridge, the first Secretary of Homeland Security under George W. Bush who oversaw the implementation of the color-coded terror threat-level warning system that was created after 9/11. Now the "terror" is on your newsfeeds and internet. Next up is General Michael Hayden, a former CIA director & a former NSA director and principal at the Chertoff Group, a security consultancy seeking to “advise corporate clients and governments, including foreign governments” on security matters co-founded by former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, who also currently serves as the board chairman of major weapons manufacturer BAE systems. Think this app has a conflict of interest when war is involved? Then there is Richard Stengel, former editor of Time magazine, a “distinguished fellow” at the Atlantic Council and Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy under President Barack Obama. The Atlantic Council is the group that is pushing for Facebook censorship. With Richard in place, the clear ties between controlling content on social media is also seen in this new app. Don Baer is a former White House communications director and advisor to Bill Clinton. He is also the current chairman of both PBS and the influential PR firm Burson Cohn & Wolfe, and is an elite media strategist. Finally there is Elise Jordan, former communications director for the National Security Council and former speech-writer for Condoleezza Rice. This project has transcended partisan politics, to bring together minds to discouraging read, writing, and thinking and thinking contrary to the establishment narrative. Don't worry - "We The People" are able to think for ourselves.
