This extension stops YouTube HTML5 and Flash players from auto-buffering videos. Using this add-on (extension) you can save bandwidth and also prevent YouTube on multiple tabs from buffering media simultaneously.
You will have to click on the player to allow buffering of the media files. Once a player is buffered, it can play multiple tracks. There is no need to activate the player on each new track (so you can easily watch playlists for instance).
Features:
1. Stop auto-playing on "/watch?v=" pages
2. Stop auto-playing on "/user/" pages
3. Stop auto-playing on "/channel/" pages

Was good but the recent black-screen problem is a big issue. hope it gets fixed as soon as possible.
Stopped working just recently :(
It still works on Chrome, but recently every video now starts with a black screen instead of a paused thumbnail and play button. Clicking the black screen starts playing the video normally, so the thumbnail and play button are still there, you just can't see them anymore. Please fix!
Doesn't work at all as of August 13 2023. Opera browser (chromium-based; manifest v2). I wish there were a way to upload logs, used extensions, and settings as part of a review. Are there any known incompatibilities? I'm not using any VPN or proxy, but I am using multiple ad blockers on YouTube (one for video ads and one for the rest).
It works extremely inconsistently. Sometimes it forces me to press play twice, sometimes it doesn't even pause.
Problem: I unchecked "Stop even on playlists", but autoplay is still disabled on playlists. How to fix?
last YT update broke the extension, please fix.
Doesn't work on https://www.youtube.com/@Katimorton. FYI, https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stop-autoplay-for-youtube/figkapeodjhdgnpiamleongcmecfjccb does work on it. So use both to be safe.
отличное расширение. Останавливает автовоспроизведение роликов и отображает заставку в отличие от ему подобных, которые просто ставят на паузу на первой секунде и видео в буфере все равно подгружается
I always have many windows and tabs for YT, that open each time I start the browser. Downloaded this a few months ago when my previous used extension was kicked out of the store. This has worked for the most part. It does start the video for only the highlighted tab, for each window, when loading Chrome, but stops it immediately after. Unfortunately it's enough that YT registers it in history, although I never hear the video played. If I simply open a new video in a background tab, and eventually open that tab, the video DOES NOT play, and it never registers in history. The problem I shared above ONLY occurs when opening the browser for the 1st time for the day. The extension isn't perfect, but it's good enough and I can work around the minor issues. It's better than nothing and I think these extensions could be harder to find in the future as Google tried to change code to break them or kick them out of the store. I do not use playlists or watch shorts, so I can't give an opinion on that side.
