The Microsoft Defender Browser Protection extension helps protect you against online threats, such as links in phishing emails and websites designed to trick you into downloading and installing malicious software that can harm your computer.
If you click a malicious link in an email or navigate to a site designed to trick you into disclosing financial, personal or other sensitive information, or a website that hosts malware, Microsoft Defender Browser Protection will check it against a constantly updated list of malicious URLs known to Microsoft.
If the malicious link matches one on the list, Microsoft Defender Browser Protection will show a red warning screen letting you know that the web page you are about to visit is known to be harmful, giving you a clear path back to safety with one click.

I compared safe browsing apps. MS Defender compares your browsing to tables of known threat actors in realtime. Anonymously. Defender, on a Windows computer has very low overhead and if you are setup to automatically download and install via Windows Update it is always current. Google permanently logs all of your browsing, keyed to your Google email ID, if you add their Safe Browsing extension. Sounds like spyware to me.

Gestern öffnete sich bei einigen unserer Nutzer plötzlich ein Tab mit einer Meldung des Plugins in Chrome: "Thank you for using Microsoft Defender Browser Protection! Developer support for this extension is complete and will be expiring soon. To continue receiving protection from Microsoft, open Microsoft Edge." Verstehe ich das richtig, dass das Plugin für Chrome eingestampft wird?! Es wirkt generell so, als ob Microsoft die Nutzung von Edge weiter forcieren würde. Der Homepage-Link des Plugins browserprotection.microsoft.com führt plötzlich auch nur noch auf eine allgemeine Seite mit Tips zur Nutzung von Edge.
I'm removing your extension effective immediately. Leave it to Microsoft to remove something from the most popular browser to make it exclusive to their browser to try to increase market share and make you a product.. I've seen this story regarding Microsoft played out for decades and they still haven't changed. I will never use Edge and this just hardened my resolve. If I were allowed negative 5 stars, you earned it. Oh well, thanks for gift wrapping me and sending me to Brave.
This extension told me to install Microsoft Edge.
This was a great additional layer of security, BUT, Microsoft is now using it to promote their clone of Chrome, called Edge. I think that is foul considering their Edge product is part of the same Chromium project. RIP Defender extension.
