AI product readChrome companion extension for Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition software, bridging Dragon's voice command capabilities to the Chrome browser via native messaging
Dragon NaturallySpeaking's built-in browser support cannot directly interact with modern web pages in Chrome. This extension enables Dragon users to use voice commands (clicking elements by name, dictating/editing text) within Chrome, including support for Google Docs and specialized web applications.
1) User installs Dragon NaturallySpeaking desktop software (v13+) and the Chrome extension. 2) The extension injects content scripts into all web pages. 3) When Dragon is running, the extension's background service worker connects to Dragon via Chrome native messaging (com.nuance.dgnria). 4) Voice commands spoken to Dragon are relayed through the native messaging host to the extension, which then parses the DOM, identifies clickable elements and editable fields, and executes the requested actions (click, dictate, edit) on the page.

- Target users
- Dragon NaturallySpeaking users (version 13+) who browse the web with Chrome / Professionals requiring hands-free web navigation and text input / Medical professionals using Dragon with web-based clinical applications
- Cannot inspect the native messaging host (com.nuance.dgnria) code or Dragon desktop application to verify full feature requirements
- Cannot confirm whether Dragon NaturallySpeaking itself requires a Nuance account or activation key beyond the initial software purchase
MonetizationNo paid features detected
The extension itself contains no payment logic, subscription checks, premium feature gating, billing APIs, or upgrade UI. Searches for premium, subscription, license, upgrade, payment, and purchase returned zero matches. Dragon NaturallySpeaking itself is a paid desktop product, but the extension does not gate or manage those paid features — it is a free companion that bridges Dragon to Chrome.

- Reason
- The extension is a local bridge between Chrome and the Dragon NaturallySpeaking desktop application. It communicates via Chrome's native messaging API (chrome.runtime.connectNative('com.nuance.dgnria')) — no login UI, no authentication flow, no account creation is implemented in the extension itself. The keyword hits for 'login' and 'auth' are all false positives from @author comments and commented-out debug logging strings.

Dragon Naturally Speaking seems to be getting worse over time, and not better! There is a vast difference between how the product is advertised and how it performs. Disappointing.
Amazing for school.
The new Pro Individual seems to have messed up this integration.
What an absolute waste of time. I had no problems in version 11.5! I have just updated to version 13 and it will not let me type anything in the browser. This needs serious work to actually make sure it is working
I am truly disappointed in the level of compatibility that this web extension provides for Dragon NaturallySpeaking; it's dismal. Even with the latest version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking Individual V14; it's highly unstable. In my experience with it, corrections don't work and sometimes as I'm dictating the screen jumps up and down; scrolling up and down for no reason. It loses track of where I'm at and sometimes I just continuously keeps saying that it doesn't recognize any speech recognition. I find that I get better results if I'm not using the Dragon Web Extension. I'm disappointed that Nuance continues to be lackadaisical towards their products.
Please fix this. Every year there is the hope things will get better with the new version, but every year the same problems, or fixing a couple of problems and introducing a couple more. The speech recognition space isn't a monopoly anymore, Google and Microsoft will replace Dragon NaturallySpeaking entirely before long unless something is done about the buggy software.
It doesn't work.
I bought this program and launched extension so he could use laptop - this product is a joke. He can't read the screen to select - its advertising says by voice - hmmm - configure mic by reading - oh yes - HE IS BLIND - so I feel that this is a waste of money - doesn't perform - useless. If anyone knows a product that actually works to read a web page and voice commands - please let me know!
Worked a few days then stopped.
Be sure to turn on HTML editing, that will improve the performance. Other than that, I have to delete and reload every so often and it still has bugs with occasional repetition of the first letter or number. Dragon continues to produce new products but some of the issues of duplication of letters, erratic capitalization and incompatibility with widely used programs, these issues are carried from version to version. I buy the next version only in the hopes that maybe some of the bugs might be fixed. I don't really need more bells and whistles. It seems to me that a competing product, if anyone were to offer it, could gain market share very quickly.
