Make sure to use Chrome version 84+ with this extension, otherwise the automatic selection of the locationbar text doesn't work.
Since Google updated Chrome to version 29, the App overview is no longer shown, when opening a new tab. This extension restores that behaviour to the way it was.
Tip: the keyboard shortcut CTRL+L (Windows/Linux) or CMD+L (macOS) highlights the URL.

* Upgraded to manifest V3. The rest of the extension code is exactly the same as version 2.1.0. Please bear in mind that the display of the apps is handled by internal Chrome code. This means that this extension has no influence over how that looks.
* Fixed a bug so that the address bar is highlighted again

Thank you for creating this it's exactly what I was after. I just wish Google hadn't made the pointless decision to stop the Apps tab from appearing in the first place, instead showing their search page which if you use the omnibar you don't actually need.
This extension is great, no doubt about it. It brings back the old new tab page; I don't know why chrome changed it to the stupid most visited boxes. However, when I use this extension, chrome://apps/ appears every new tab page and that is annoying. If you could please get rid of that, this extension would be perfect:)
Unfortunately when the chrome://apps page is displayed, the URL bar is focused with the insertion point located after the URL, so typing anything (to search, for example) produces an invalid URL unless the bar is cleared first. I know this is an issue Google created, but I was hoping that this extension would resolve it, and it doesn't.
