Latest news:

☆ Updated to support Chrome extension manifest v3

☆ Torrent files downloaded as octet-streams now trigger application/x-bittorrent MIME routing rules

☆ Referrer routing now uses the source URL as a fallback, improving reliability

Downloads Router is a tiny extension that helps you avoid cleaning the dreaded "Downloads" folder by automatically saving files in the right places.

Downloads Router springs into action whenever you start downloading a file. It looks at the filename, filetype, or origin domain (source website) of the item, and matches this information against rules that you define on the extension's Options page. Should a matching rule exist, a "suggestion" is sent to the browser, indicating where it should save the file; this suggestion may however be overridden, as for instance when you use the "Save As..." feature.

Absolute paths need some additional measures to configure. The rest is fine.

Absolute paths not work, with relative paths it's ok. When i use absolute path, the files download in default system folder. UPDATE: with symbolic links work ok

I wanted to save all my audio files to a specific folder but it didn't work. I have no idea what the reason might be. Restarting the browser didn't help me either. My Setup looked like this: Filetype ⇨ folder mapping audio/mpeg X:/Downloads/Music/

Great extension! Allows you to set your own routing rules for download locations. This is a feature I missed from firefox. This could be further improved if the extension could pick up a user's file-saving habits from recently downloaded files and automatically establish rules. Regardless. still a great extension. Thanks!

Excelent! Excelent indeed! I would give full marks if you add a more practical way to select the file type to filter, as to use a generic term rather than using the MIME standard nomenclature term. In general, a standard user just wants to separate audio, video, office documents (text, spreadsheet, slide), images, compressed files, etc.. Separating by the MIME standard is a hard work to common people. Another interesting detail would be the possibility of backing up the configuration. As it's a huge job to configure using MIME, would be nice to save the configuration in case we need to reinstall the browser or replicate on multiple computers.

This extension is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Lightweight, logical sorting of my downloads as soon as they start. Thank you so much!
