Latest news:

☆ Updated to support Chrome extension manifest v3

☆ Torrent files downloaded as octet-streams now trigger application/x-bittorrent MIME routing rules

☆ Referrer routing now uses the source URL as a fallback, improving reliability

Downloads Router is a tiny extension that helps you avoid cleaning the dreaded "Downloads" folder by automatically saving files in the right places.

Downloads Router springs into action whenever you start downloading a file. It looks at the filename, filetype, or origin domain (source website) of the item, and matches this information against rules that you define on the extension's Options page. Should a matching rule exist, a "suggestion" is sent to the browser, indicating where it should save the file; this suggestion may however be overridden, as for instance when you use the "Save As..." feature.

Should add an option to save pdf files as per its metadata. Eg: Author-Year-Title

Love the fact that I can add as many MIME references as I want. Have not noticed any big issues.

Only complaint is that it doesn't seem to interact well with the extensions I've found to add a right-click "save to default download location" option. Ideally that would allow the router to catch and route the downloads, but it doesn't (though if anyone finds one that does work with this, let me know). I can't blame the author for this, though - it may well be due to the implementation of other extensions or limitations on interaction between extensions. In any case, this extension does exactly what's advertised extremely well, works great on Linux as well as Windows, and has a friendly configuration interface that isn't too dumbed down for power users. Two features would make it perfect, however - first would be simple regular expression support in the mimetype definitions (eg allowing a mimetype rule for, say, "video/.*"). The other would be to add a "Save to router-specified folder" option in the right-click context menu for images and links. For me, this would be huge, as saving images into folders based on referrer is something I currently can only do manually with the 'save image as' or 'save link as' dialog. Five stars anyway for an excellent extension, hoping for an update to add these features if the author is continuing to support it.
